Love yourself.

Self-care is a popular term that has shown up everyone on the internet and social media and a highly subjective term. Self-care for the purpose of this blog will be described here as how you display the love you have yourself through personal actions.

What does that mean exactly?

  • How you speak to yourself- Doing your best to practice positive self talk and when you find yourself being self-critical it means have compassion and recognizing that feeling, focusing on loving yourself in that moment

  • How you care for yourself physically- Are you bathing and grooming yourself regularly? It sounds silly but when your heart is hurting it might even be difficult to get out of bed. Again, in those moments have compassion for yourself and recognize the pain you are feeling and focus on loving yourself in that moment

  • Reaching our to you social supports- Doing your best to connect with your trusted social supports as this can be transformative in your healing. If you are not wanting to reach out or you have a limited support system, again have compassion for yourself and recognize the feeling, loving yourself in that moment.

This is just a short list of some self-care strategies and there a so many unique to each and everyone of you. If you find yourself reading this and recognize yourself as someone who struggles to practice self-care please know that it might be time to consider professional help with an experienced therapist, and if this is you, I hope you do so today.
